Michael Edbauer, MD, CIPA medical director, said the subsidy program would not endorse one particular EHR vendor, but would only require that physicians purchase an EHR certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology.CIPA organized a Buffalo electronics trade show with certified vendors invited to participate, but Edbauer said "word of mouth" would be the best selling point among those uncertain physicians still using paper. "We currently have about 70 doctors enrolled in the program, but we think those numbers will double after one year," Edbauer said. CIPA physicians are affiliated with the Catholic Health System (CHS), one of the two largest providers of healthcare in western New York with a network of four hospitals.
