KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 (Bernama) -- Coaches at all levels must integrate Sports Science in their training programmes to enhance the performance of their athletes, said Chris Earle, the Director of Sport for the University of Loughborough, England.
"The lack of knowledge about Sports Science, Sports Medicine and proper nutrition by coaches and athletes may have been one of the main reasons why performances at international level has not been very encouraging.
"When we blend systematic and quality training with the knowledge gained in Sports Science, there is going to be a quantum leap in the performance of athletes. What we notice is a lack of such components used by coaches here," said Earle, who is attending a Sports Science Seminar at the National Sports Institute (ISN).
Earle said that through the seminar, he hoped to enlighten coaches and officials here on the importance of Sports Science and also provide an opportunity for those interested, to use the extensive facilities and expertise available in Loughborough University, regarded as a leading training centre for many national associations in the United Kingdom.
"Our university is the National Swimming centre and a base for the likes of the British triathlon, track & field, cricket and hockey squads," he said.
