Charles graduated from Lincoln Memorial University.In addition to his service to higher education, he retired from the United States Army Reserve with the rank of Major, having completed 27 years of service, including service during World War II.Charles served as Director of Physical Plant at the University of South Florida in Tampa and prior to that served at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.He also served as a board member and President of APPA, serving 17 years as an active member and 15 years as a member Emeritus.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sevierville.
