    (07/08/03) HARTFORD - Described as a "tough" politician who served with "grace and charm," former Republican state Senate leader, Adela Eads died at age 83.Governor Rowland ordered all Connecticut flags to fly at half staff to pay tribute to Eads, who served the state for 24 years.

    Eads, who lived in Kent, stepped down from public office in 2000.She served as president of the Senate in 1995 and 1996 when Republican controlled the chamber.When Democrats took over, she became Senate minority leader and even survived a coup attempt.

    Eads political career began in 1959 when she was elected to the Kent Board of Education.She served as board chairman for 26 years and also held posts on the state Board of Education and the Connecticut Coalition for Literacy.

    Born in Brooklyn, Eads attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia and the Katherine Gibbs School in New York City.

    In recent months , Devereux Glenholme has built and remodeled cottages , specifically designed for the 5 to 9 age group , remodeled classrooms , and implemented new curriculum and programs for this age group.This is a quickly growing population of children in need , within Connecticut , and TLC is a response to serve this age group.The program provides residential facilities for 20 boys , plus additional classroom space for another 10 girls.

    TLC allows Devereux Glenholme to provide completely separate academic , dining and living programs for the young age group , completely separate from The Glenholme School , which focuses on older children.Another important component of TLC is Tender Living Care , a therapeutic foster care program that connects needy children with therapeutic parents in the area.
