For Adrienne Dunning, her education and family's background makes her new post as director of the Tobacco Farm Life Museum a perfect fit.
Dunning is excited about her new job.
"I worked in archival at Joyner Library at East Carolina (University)," said Dunning."It was very interesting and fun to me." She had worked at the library about five years before leaving to take the museum director's job.
Dunning received a bachelor's degree in English and history from ECU and thinks that makes her qualified for her new position. She grew up in Aulander.
In addition to her education, farming is in her blood.
"My grandparents were farmers," she said."They farmed tobacco, cotton and peanuts, and I always enjoyed hearing the stories my dad told (about farming)."
Dunning has several goals for the museum's future.
...
Dunning said she is going to revamp the store to be more customer-friendly.
"We will also be looking at getting new merchandise in the store, as well," she said.
Even though Dunning says there is a lot of work to do, she says that the museum is doing very well.
"There was nothing wrong with the museum when I got here," she said."I just would like to see us make some improvements and acquire some new exhibits.
"The board, the community and the employees have been very welcoming," she said.
