Kathleen Dunn named medical director of Upstate Medical University's emergency notification program.
Kathleen A. Dunn , M.D. , a medical officer for the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta , has been named associate professor of emergency medicine and medical director of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) Intelligent Transportation Systems Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University ( formerly known as the SUNY Health Science Center ).
Dunn will lead the three-year NHTSA project that will aid in the development of a statewide emergency notification plan to drastically reduce emergency response time to traffic crashes.Dunn will bring together emergency medical services professionals , government leaders and communications administrators throughout the state to help develop a system that will incorporate various technologies , including 9-1-1 and cellular telephone , into a comprehensive emergency response system.
Prior to joining Upstate , Dunn held various positions at East Carolina University in Greenville , N.C. , ( 1988 -1997 ) , among them assistant professor and director of research in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
Dunn's research has been published in numerous referred journals , including Academic Emergency Medicine , American Journal of Industrial Medicine and the American Journal of Gastroenterology.She has lectured throughout the country on issues as diverse as abdominal blunt trauma and EMT knowledge of traffic laws.
A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics , Dunn earned a doctor of medicine degree from East Carolina University and a master's degree in public health from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dunn , a native of Rochester , N.Y. , resides in Cazenovia , N.Y.
