Jennifer Dunn, lobbyist for the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities, was present to update the Council and explain their programs. She informed the Council the CGMC has obtained money for infrastructure projects, so Princeton should ask for some if it is needed.
She reviewed a chronology of the local government aid debate and explained some of the inequities between metro and outstate funding. She suggested if the City is considering franchise fees, it should adopt them before the next legislature session. She stated some cities have looked at local sales tax.The CGMC does not support this type of tax if it is meant to fill in revenue losses like LGA.
Dunn informed the Council that Representative Sondra Erickson and Senator Betsy Wergin did not support CGMC's efforts to protect cities.
