Soon after, Andy Dunn, then SonoSite's marketing director, got a call from a curious prop manager on the show. SonoSite smelled opportunity and flew two of its people to Los Angeles to teach prop masters how to use the device. Within a few weeks, it was on the show.
But the company worries that the relationship could be ending.
General Electric, the owner of NBC, is elbowing its way into the portable-ultrasound business and is said to be pressuring the show's prop masters to ditch the devices from its little rival. -

According to SonoSite's director of marketing, Andy Dunn, the system was very well received at the annual meeting of the College of Emergency Physicians held recently in Las Vegas. "Emergency physicians want to provide fast and accurate response to patients admitted to the trauma center. Often there isn't enough room in the ER for big, bulky ultrasound systems. Physicians want small, portable systems combined with good image quality. They want to be able to scan quickly, make the assessment and provide the necessary treatment."
