The following is an interview between Health Check (HC) staff and Andrea Dunn (Dunn) M.Sc., Nutrition Insights Manager with Campbell Company of Canada.
HC: When it comes to healthy eating, how has the grocery store environment changed?
Dunn: There has been a clear shift towards health and nutrition in the grocery environment.
...
Dunn: Consumers today are looking for healthier food choices, but they also want something that tastes good. What's more, these products need to fit easily into a busy lifestyle. Our learning has showed specifically that Canadians have a growing interest in nutrition including reading food labels, reducing the intake of certain things like fat, calories or sodium and increasing certain foods like fruits and vegetables.
HC: What prompted Campbell to join the Health Check program?
Dunn: At Campbell Company of Canada, we are committed to making healthy choices easy for Canadians and the Health Check program is a simple, clear way for us to show that soup is a healthy choice.
HC: Has Health Check played a roll in helping Campbell's communicate the healthy aspects of your products?
Dunn: Campbell's is proud to share that its sodium levels in more than 25 soups now meet the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Health Check sodium levels and that more than 40 products provide a full serving of vegetables!
HC: What, in your opinion, are the main reasons consumers attach so much credibility and trust to Health Check?
Dunn: We believe consumers trust Health Check because of its credibility which stems from the fact that the program is a non-biased, third party with a link to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Many food information programs exist, but having one which is based on Canada's Food Guide and tied to the Foundation lends considerable trust to the program. Having Health Check, a consistent, standard for nutrition, helps to cut through the confusion of the various nutrition claim symbols created by food manufacturers.
HC: Tell us about your plans to reformulate your soups and include Health Check on the packaging.
Dunn: Campbell welcomes the opportunity to transform a leading food category (soups and simple meals) by being a leader in sodium reduction efforts.
...
Dunn: We plan to continue working closely with Health Check! -

"The key difference between Ignite(TM) frozen meals and other sports nutrition foods, such as protein and energy bars, shakes and gels, is that Ignitea not only tastes great, it packs a punch from delicious whole food ingredients including pasta, rice or potatoes, chicken, sausage or legumes and two servings of vegetables," said Andrea Dunn, Senior Research Technologist and Nutrition Scientist, Campbell Company of Canada and Campbell's Nutrition and Culinary Institute. -
