   BLOOMINGTON -- Illinois Wesleyan sophomore running back Marcus Dunlop figures he's operating at about 95 percent now after battling a nagging ankle injury all season.
   
   There was nothing wrong with his smile Wednesday, which is even better news for a 1-4 Titan team in need of some positive developments.
   
   "I'm doing much better physically," Dunlop said. "It feels good to do some things now. I can make all my cuts and run hard. There's just a little bit of pain. I just fight through it every day and don't even worry about it."
   
   Dunlop looked like his old self in last week's 36-14 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin loss to North Central.

   "It was a whole team effort," Dunlop said. "The offensive line did a much better job of blocking, and the receivers were blocking downfield. The coaches had a great game plan and knew what plays would work good against that defense. We kept going back to it and executing."
   
   After rushing for a team-high 659 yards and earning Most Valuable Freshman honors last season, a noticeably hobbled Dunlop was limited to 58 yards and 22 carries in the first three games. He showed signs of busting out two weeks ago with a 96-yard performance at Elmhurst, including a 54-yard scamper.
   
   "The injury had a definite effect," Dunlop said. "I just tried to play hard for my team no matter what and put it out of my head."
   
   A rejuvenated Dunlop likes the Titans' chances in the second half of the season, beginning with Saturday's 1 p.m. game against CCIW co-leader Augustana at Rock Island.
   
   "We're just starting over. We're 0-0 every week," Dunlop said.

   Then Dunlop found out IWU was picked to finish sixth in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin preseason coaches poll.
   
   "After last year and then coming into the preseason and being ranked sixth in the CCIW, yeah we've got a big chip on our shoulder," Dunlop said during Media Day Monday at Wesleyan Stadium.

   Dunlop led the Titans in rushing with 659 yards and scored six TDs. He also had 18 receptions for 110 yards.
   
   "I think there's a lot better team attitude this year," Dunlop said.
