Music. What would our lives be without it.Kings , Queens , Lords and Ladies often played musical instruments or sang leading roles in operas performed in their palaces and manors.European immigrants brought the music of the common people with them to the new world and for more than two hundred years , the music of North American settlers had no real identity of its own.

The usual policy, constitution and budget issues were discussed but the real treat of the luncheon was a presentation by Dennis Dunlop, vice president and general manager of CTV Saskatchewan.Dunlop spoke of the issues small businesses face in Saskatchewan's economic future and described the rise of CTV from one station in Regina to the most successful network in the province."It's amazing, in only about 15 to 20 years our two channel world has expanded into a 200 channel universe," said Dunlop."Consumers in their ultimate wisdom decided they wanted more choices."Thus, cable television was born. But in this era CTV still garners the majority of Saskatchewan's viewing public. In fact, Dunlop explained, eighteen of the top twenty shows on television in the province are shown on CTV."Communities need three things," he said."They want news, they want sales (advertisement) and they want involvement."That involvement includes roughly 50,000 public service announcements a year aired on television, these P.S.A.s translate into $5-million worth of free advertisement to community organizations and groups."Community involvement isn't mandated by the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission). We do it because we want to," said Dunlop."I love my job because we really do have the opportunity to make a difference."Dunlop finished his presentation with a one-minute sales pitch. He explained that in today's market businesses have to go the extra mile to make an impact."CTV in Saskatchewan has a remarkable market. In Prince Albert CTV makes up 27 per cent of the viewing public, in Saskatchewan 25 per cent." he explained about advertising on CTV in the province.
