William A. Dunker
FRANKLIN - William A. Dunker, 95, of Franklin, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.
He was born Sept. 2, 1906, in New York City, the son of William and Augusta (Bornkiesel) Dunker.
He married Rita Donovan on Nov. 6, 1937, and she passed away on Aug. 16, 1987.
In his younger years, he played semi-professional baseball, and was auditioned by the New York Yankees.
A graduate of New York University, Mr. Dunker was an accountant for 30 years with Sperry-Rand Corp. in Lake Success.
A resident of Franklin since 1987, moving here from North Merrick, Mr. Dunker was a communicant of St. Paul's Catholic Community in Franklin.
He was a member of the North Merrick Fire Department, a former member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Nocturnal Adoration Society of Sacred Heart Church in North Merrick.
He is survived by a son, Brian T. Dunker and his wife, Marie of Hicksville; five granddaughters, Joan Dunker, Victoria Maskulyak and her husband, Michael, Patricia Dunker, Carolyn Holland and her husband, David, and Alison Dunker; a daughter-in-law, Roberta Dunker of Franklin; three stepgrandchildren, Janni Simner and her husband, Larry, Jolie Simner and Bret Simner; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Nicholas Maskulyak.
He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins; along with his faithful pet, Freddie.
He was predeceased by a son, Wallis Dunker in 1992.
