Richard W. Dunford leads most of TER's damage assessments for oil spills, working on 18 oil spills to date.He currently leads projects involving oil spills in Texas, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, and Maine.For most oil spills, Dr. Dunford reviews Trustees' assessment of damages to human-use services and develops alternative estimates of such damages, sometimes through collecting and analyzing primary data.In most cases, the responsible parties use TER's damage estimates to reach a settlement for damages to human-use services.
In addition to leading most of TER's oil spill damage assessments, Dr. Dunford managed or participated in eight damage assessments arising from hazardous substance releases and three resulting from coral reef groundings.Dr. Dunford also led or participated in more than a dozen NRDA-related projects, including comments on proposed NRDA regulations, a guidance document, and NRDA guidance workshops.He makes presentations at many NRDA seminars and conferences.Dr. Dunford authors or co-authors many journal articles, chapters in books, and monographs.He also presents papers at professional meetings and reviews manuscripts for professional journals.
