Now, Julia Dundass is ready to help area residents with all of their aches and pains.Dundass, a registered massage therapist, recently opened up the Massage Therapy Clinic above the Pearl Health Care in Bayfield.It was a business decision that was five years in the making.Dundass, who studied at D'arcy Lane in London, is a familiar face in Bayfield as she has spent her entire life as a seasonal resident in the community.Indeed, she has spent the last five summers as a massage therapist in Bayfield and is looking forward to serving clients on a full-time basis.The list of services available at the cosy clinic includes therapeutic and deep-tissue massage, myofascial release, lastone therapy using hot and cold rocks, relaxation, Thai and sport massage as well as hydro therapy and remedial exercises.An ultra-sound machine will be added to the clinic in the near future.Last spring, Dundass received her instructor's accreditation in Pilates, which she incorporates in remedial exercises.All treatments can aid clients who face a wide range of conditions, including headaches, lower back pain, tendonitis, sports injuries and chronic disorders, such as fibromyalgia and arthritis. Dundass says she was drawn to a career in massage therapy after travelling to Thailand, where she studied Thai massage."I have lots of experience in sports massage," says Dundass, noting she has also helped for years at a northern heli-skiing camp near Smithers, B.C.She also worked as an on-the-road massage therapist during World Cups in Europe for the Canadian Rowing Team.Dundass says while she has hands-on experience in helping a broad spectrum of athletes, she hopes to specialize in golf, working on range of motion and related injuries.Indeed, as a golfer, she knows the benefits of Thai massage, stretching, remedial exercises, myofascial work and structural integration, which emphasizes postural realignment.All of the aforementioned treatments will help golfers in rotation and golf-club speed, she says.Dundass also offers training in yoga, a technique she mastered after spending two months in India this past summer."Yoga is my saving grace," she says."It helps me relax."And, to keep her clients as comfortable as possible, soothing music filters through the clinic, which features bright and uplifting colours and is scented with lavender.Dundass, who treats clients at both her office and on site, offers sessions ranging from 30 to 90 minutes.The clinic takes both referrals and walk-ins and clients with extended benefits are covered by health-care plans.To book an appointment with Dundass, call 565-5588.
