    Dr. Steve Duncan has been appointed East Carolina University's first director of military affairs.

    Duncan's main focus will be coordinating relationships between ECU and the military through the use of technology. In addition to serving as a liaison between the military and the university, Duncan will help develop specially tailored programs.

    Duncan worked in the field of training for the U.S. Army and Department of Defense for more than 32 years before coming to ECU. For the past decade, he worked as the deputy commander of U.S. Army Training Support Center in Fort Eustis, Va., where he was responsible for supporting distance-learning activities in 18 Army training schools and worldwide deployments, including Bosnia, Haiti and Korea.

    He also has served as the director of individual training for the Department of Defense Training and Performance Data Center in Orlando, Fla.

    A native of Bowling Green, Ky., Duncan holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Kentucky and a master's degree in education from the University of Arizona. He received his doctorate in education from the University of Arizona.

    In addition to numerous performance awards, Duncan received the Commander's Award, the Superior Civilian Service Award, the Army's Decoration for Meritorious Civilian Service and was recognized as the AUSADA Civilian of the Year for Fort Eustis.
