Department of Natural Resources conservation officer Kipp Duncan says the signs marking routes that are closed to off-road vehicles are being vandalized and stolen. A few have been shot, and he expects that will continue as more people carry guns into the woods.

"I would say the overwhelming reason that we offered this plea was to do anything we could to keep him out of a trial based on the letter from the doctor stating that a trial would be harmful to him," said DNR Conservation Officer Kipp Duncan.

"At no time did we want to hurt his health," added Duncan, who with fellow officer Sarah Sindelir brought the case against Murray.
