In the meantime, the city has begun flushing the hydrant at the end of the line for about 50 minutes once a week to clear out the dead end section, an action that Douville said has definitely improved water quality.

In an additional measure, the city is looking at purchasing an automatic flusher that could flush the pipe any time of day during non-freezing months to save staff time and allow flushing whenever needed.
