"Last year, we had 19 applications for one slot," said Susan Dooley, director of admissions for NPS.

According to Dooley, there's no "trick" to being chosen, but applicants must demonstrate academic promise and "their letters of recommendation have to be very, very strong."

Two copies must be made of the application packet.
