HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Brian Dooley resigned the post of deputy mayor for Hoosick Falls, which went into effect as of the last board meeting on Dec. 9.

Dooley said his resignation was based on time and availability.

"It's not fair for me to hold the position if people can't reach me," he said.

Dooley has recently begun working full time in Eagle Bridge as a general manager for Professional Packaging Services, Inc., his father's business. He said this job has impeded on his time such that he can no longer serve as deputy mayor.

The responsibilities of the deputy mayor are largely to replace the mayor when she is out of town or unavailable, Dooley said.

"That member of the board becomes first in command when a mayoral decision must be made and the mayor isn't there," Dooley said.

Dooley has held the position since Ed Garmon stepped down about seven months ago.

McAulliffe will seek reelection, and Dooley has not yet decided whether to run again.

Brian Dooley, 39, is the general manager at Professional Packaging Services, Inc., a family-owned business.Until recently, he also ran his own business Classic Service, a local Internet provider that he recently sold to Berkshire Net.He has served one term on the board of trustees and is running for reelection. He believes he is an asset to the board because of his technical expertise.

"The village offices were struck by lightening a while back and all the equipment was fried in the whole building," Dooley said."I made sure that everything was covered in the insurance claim," he said."Lightening has tremendous power.Stuff comes back to haunt you later."

But Dooley is not running strictly on his technical skills.

"The real reason I agreed to run was because I believe that if you are going to speak about the village, you'd better be willing to put the time in and give your best effort. We should work to make things better rather than complain," he said.

When it came to important issues for the village, Dooley said he wanted to improve the village's infrastructure.

"A lot of people feel the most important thing is job creation, traffic flow or appearance," he said."Personally, I think the most important issue is building a strong foundation: The municipal water supply, wastewater treatment. And once the groundwork is laid, go on to beautification."

Dooley said he is willing to put his time and energy to work for Hoosick Falls.

"I have the village's best interests at heart," Dooley said."I have three children I'm raising in the community.I'll contribute as long as people want me."

Dooley encouraged people to get out and vote.

In fact, bringing business to the downtown is key to the village's revitalization, said Deputy Mayor Brian Dooley, who was open to the idea of a loading zone.

"Multiple businesses could benefit from a loading zone," Dooley said.
