There were no reports of power outages in the area, but Orange and Rockland Electric crews had a tough time reaching the scene because of the stalled traffic, said Mike Donovan, a spokesman for the utility.
"A pole was hit, and as a result distribution wires were lowered across the highway to an unsafe height," Donovan said.
Other utility wires, Verizon telephone lines and cable television lines, were also spread across the highway.
Donovan said Orange and Rockland crews arrived at 7:21 p.m., and were bringing in a new pole.He estimated the cracked pole would not be replaced until midnight.
