Donovan said working for a manufacturing company offers secure employment and good pay.

"Once the companies get the skilled workers, they want to keep them and will often promote within the company," she said."The money tends to be very good.It's really a good career path."

But still Donovan said there are more than 1,200 full-time manufacturing jobs listed as available in the area through the WCTC.

This year, because of the recession, the number of jobs listed with WCTC has declined about 43.6%, to 8,300 said Jean Donovan, manager of Cooperative Education and the Employment Opportunity Center.

Nonetheless, there were still many job openings for this year's graduates, she said.Typically, about 1,000 students graduate each year from the college.

This year, for example, there were 180 listings for accounting jobs and 48 WCTC graduates in that field, compared with 349 listings and 48 graduates in the 2000-'01 year, Donovan said.
