WEMG was founded in 1990, by T.J. Donnelly, the former general manager of KPLX-FM and KLIF-AM in Dallas, shortly after he sold his barter media placement service, Donnelly Media, Inc. (founded in 1981) to a subsidiary of ITEX Barter Systems, a publicly traded company based in Portland, Oregon.
Donnelly's background includes 25 years of advertising agency and media experience including time with Foote, Cone, and Belding Advertising plus senior managment positions with RKO General and Susquehana Broadcasting.He has supervised and worked on many accounts including Lorilard Tobacco, Johnson Wax, Transamerican, Purex, Sunkist, STP, Beneficial Finance, Orkin, Lipton Tea, Schick, the Southern California Visitors Council, National Car Rental, Thom McAnn, General Electric, Oster, and Sunbeam, just to name a few.
During it's nine years in business, Donnelly Media had successfully placed media for many Fortune 500 companies desiring to expand their business and profits via barter.Some of these clients included TWA, Rodeway Inns, Ramada Inns, The Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Six Flags Organization, Stouffers Hotels, Cap Cities/ABC, Outrigger Hotels of Hawaii and over 60 other accounts that believe barter expands their ability to advertise effectively, at a very low cost.Donnelly billed $12 million annually.
