"I think most people would recognize (keeping families apart is) a bad thing and that is does not represent American values," said Paul Donnelly of Unite Families."The backlogs in legal immigration are enormous but they are not unfixable."
Current legislation before the Senate does address the issue by slightly increasing the number of visas issued to family members of legal immigrants, but Donnelly said this is not enough.Especially when the bill would allow illegal immigrants and guest workers to work their way toward citizenship.Donnelly said this is unfair to people like Atanasova, who came here legally and are trying to reunite with their families through the system.
"She has made a commitment to America," said Donnelly.

Donnelly said, besides hanging ribbons, he is urging people to call their congressional delegates.
