In terms of market adoption, supply-chain event management (SCEM) systems are still in the "toddler stage," says Donnelly.Nevertheless, they have contributed significantly to global supply chains.Viewlocity is aiding Dell Computer in the implementation of an SCEM application on the service parts side.

Donnelly says enterprise application integration (EAI) vendors are improving their ability to link disparate visibility systems, both within companies and across multi-partner supply chains.

Paul Donnelly, director of marketing for Viewlocity, agrees.The Atlanta-based company has roots in supply chain event management and integration software, but via its merger with SynQuest, which had roots in production-planning applications, the company-now known as Viewlocity-offers software that encompasses many of the capabilities needed in collaborative manufacturing.

"Our salespeople are seeing a ton of interest from companies that outsource manufacturing and don't have visibility into the process and the status of the orders that are being built by those manufacturers," says Donnelly.

"This is our first website overhaul in over a year," said Paul Donnelly, Viewlocity's director of marketing.

SynQuest's Clifton Park office, which developed, supported and serviced the company's software, closed last month, said Paul Donnelly, a Viewlocity spokesman.

Viewlocity combined its development centers in Clifton Park, Fairfax, Va., and Atlanta with its existing operation in Dallas.

Donnelly said the merged company has a total of about 130 employees.At least one Clifton Park employee has made the move to Dallas, he said.
