Last year, authorities recovered $200,000 alone from deadbeat parents in Bucks and about $1 million from those in Montgomery County, Bucks Sheriff Edward J. Donnelly said.

Every week, sheriff deputies in their respective counties nab deadbeat parents. But this sweep is for authorities from one county to get absent-paying parents in another county, Donnelly explained.

"We have people that are delinquent with child support payments, but they live in other counties," the sheriff said."Our warrant unit doesn't get the opportunity to get into the other counties."

During last year's sweep, about 25 parents were arrested in Bucks County and taken to the four other counties, Donnelly said.

A mutual aid agreement announced Wednesday makes that relationship official, said Bucks County Sheriff Edward "Duke" Donnelly.

The formation of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Sheriffs Coalition will help sheriffs coordinate prisoner transports to state facilities and training through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

"Basically," Donnelly said, "we're trying to save people in the counties money."

He also said people wanted for failing to pay child support will be offered amnesty during the first week of June.If the individuals turn themselves into the county and work out a payment deal that satisfies the judge, they don't go to jail, he said.

    Donnelly oversees 51 sheriffs.

Bucks County Sheriff Edward "Duke" Donnelly and his department will attack the foreclosure issue by distributing Don't Borrow Trouble pamphlets with its foreclosure notices.

"This is a great opportunity to help those who may feel they are devoid of options," Donnelly said.
