May 27, 2005 (Arlington Va.) - For life-long commitments to the composites industry, Alcan Baltek's George Dohn and Gruber Systems' Louis Garasi will be inducted into the American Composites Manufacturers Association's (ACMA) Composites Hall of Fame, and corrosion-resistant pioneer Frank Cassis will receive the association's 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ceremonies marking the careers of Dohn, Garasi, and Cassis will occur in late September at COMPOSITES 2005 in Columbus, Ohio.

For more than 35 years, Dohn who holds a degree in wood products engineering from New York State, worked in various capacities at Baltek and, later, Alcan-Baltek. He developed some of the first sandwich applications using balsa as a core material and was the first to implement laminate evaluation of mechanical properties to augment design of balsa sandwich constructions.

Kreysler also bestowed honors on Interplastic's Terry McCabe, this year's President's Award Winner, and inducted Alcan Baltek's George Dohn and Gruber Systems' Louis Garasi into the Composites Hall of Fame.

composite hall of fame

George Dohn received the 2005 American Composite Manufacturers Association's Hall of Fame Award in September.He is recognized as a consummate expert throughout the composite construction field, of which he's been part for more than 35 years.

Dohn retired from Alcan Baltek Corp.He holds a bachelor's degree in Wood Products Engineering from New York State College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and developed some of the first sandwich applications using balsa as core material.Under his direction, Baltek created the first computerized laminate-evaluation tools to assist in the design and evaluation of the mechanical properties of sandwich panels.The programs are in use today.

Though retired, Dohn still gives presentations at composite conferences in Europe, Canada and China, and continues to offer his expertise to further the advance of the composites industry.
