    composite hall of fame

    George Dohn received the 2005 American Composite Manufacturers Association's Hall of Fame Award in September.He is recognized as a consummate expert throughout the composite construction field, of which he's been part for more than 35 years.

    Dohn retired from Alcan Baltek Corp.He holds a bachelor's degree in Wood Products Engineering from New York State College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and developed some of the first sandwich applications using balsa as core material.Under his direction, Baltek created the first computerized laminate-evaluation tools to assist in the design and evaluation of the mechanical properties of sandwich panels.The programs are in use today.

    Though retired, Dohn still gives presentations at composite conferences in Europe, Canada and China, and continues to offer his expertise to further the advance of the composites industry.
