CRYSTAL FALLS - Herbert S. Dohms, 84, of 195 Northcliff Drive, Crystal Falls, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at his home.He was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Walter and Augusta (Baldt) Dohms.He graduated from Heron High School in New York City and also graduated in aviation training.He attended officers' training school and served as a Master Mariner in the U.S. Maritime Services with the Moore McCormick Lines on its South American run.He also served as a quartermaster in the Naval Reserves.Mr. Dohms worked as an insurance salesman for the New York Life Insurance Company until his retirement.On Aug. 24, 1942, he married the former Jean Pardee and the couple would spend their summers at Chicaugon Lake.The couple moved from Radburn, N.J., where they had resided for 45 years, to Chicaugon Lake in 1990 to make their home.Mr. Dohms had served on the Board of Trustees of Radburn, N.J.He had also been a member of the Iron County Golden K Kiwanis Club and the Iron River Elks Lodge 1671.He had also been an active member of the Iron County Historical Society and helped with many events at the Iron County Museum.He leaves his wife, Jean; three sons, Peter (Benign) Dohms of Pensacola, Fla., John Dohms of Newark, Del., and James (Elaine) Dohms of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Ethel Hill of New York, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
