Francis Dohmen

Francis Dohmen, a resident of LeClaire, was unanimously appointed to a two-month term as a school board member for Pleasant Valley School District Monday night.

Dohmen replaces Dan Schurr, a farmer and LeClaire resident, who began serving on the school board in 2003.

"One of the reasons is I have a son who's a junior at the high school, a sixth-, fifth- and third-grader at Cody School and I have a 2-year-old," Dohmen said."With all the children, I'd like to be more involved with some of the decisions on the types of programs they have at school.How do they balance what we're giving (in tax dollars) versus all the good programs that are available to give our children?"

District 1's boundary lines include part of LeClaire between U.S. 67 (Great River Road), 240th Street, 230th Avenue and small sections of northern Bettendorf and Scott County.

Dohmen, a U.S. Navy veteran, works as an electrical engineer for Lyondell Bassell of Clinton.He graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1991 and received a master's degree in 1996 from Bradley University, Peoria, Ill.
