"I love to see all ages being comfortable in a place," Linda Dobbs said."I like the fact they have music for different tastes on many nights of the week, and that you can take your family and your young children.They listen to the music, and they look at the instruments and are absolutely enthralled."

Clark, a New Orleans native who was working as a cook at Chili Willi's with his wife before opening Calamity Café, said he and Terre took a chance and opened a restaurant brushed with their tastes in food, music and art.

It is hard to believe now, but Clark said the idea of a sustainable business at the spot was a gamble.

Also on the programme are Ned Rorem's Trio for flute, cello, and piano and Maurice Ravel's Chansons Madécasses (for which the trio will be joined by soprano Linda Dobbs of Marshall University).

After the Army Band, Dobbs was awarded a scholarship by the French government to study two years with Michel Debrost and Alain Marion in Paris.

Linda Dobbs is Associate Professor of Music at Marshall University where she is Coordinator of Vocal Studies and Director of Opera Theatre. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, and the Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from Bowling Green State University, Ohio, with additional study at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She has performed in opera, oratorio and musical theater, appearing as guest soloist with the Toledo Symphony Music Under the Stars and Huntington Symphony POPS.

Wendell and Linda studied Irish traditional music in fall, 1999 while on sabbatical in Ireland and have returned to share those experiences throughout the region, giving lectures, teaching and performing.

The CD, titled "Rallying 'Round Our Liberty," features Dr. Wendell Dobbs, professor of flute; Linda Dobbs, professor of voice, and Dr. Leo Welch, former professor of guitar at Marshall who now is at Florida State University.

Wendell and Linda Dobbs, Odie and Andrea Parkins and Mike Newman will perform "Hunt the Wren," a musical tradition in County Kerry, Ireland, and resurrect Saint Patrick during the Mummers play; sing carols from the Irish towns of Wexford and Carrickfergus; and search musically for the last "Drop of Brandy" in the "Bottom of the Punch Bowl" as they accompany step dancer Hanna Thurman and lead a sing-a-long.

She is the founder of the Marshall University Opera for Youth program which provides quality music experiences for children and pre-professional training for university singers.OFY brings opera to schools each spring , involves area school children in main stage productions , and presents frequently at conferences throughout the state.

She is the co-author and producer of a new opera for children , The Fiddler's Ghost which received enthusiastic reviews from educators and traditional musicians alike for its portrayal of Appalachian music traditions.

She was granted sabbatical leave in Fall 1999 to study traditional song in Ireland and has returned to share those experiences throughout the region , giving lectures , teaching and performing.With her husband , flutist Wendell Dobbs , she performs as vocalist and accordionist with the Celtic group Shenanigans!.The band has recently released a CD , Calamity Nights. visit www.marshall.edu/music/.
