Laura Dobbs
Laura Dobbs is the 2005-2007 Georgia PTA President and serves on the National PTA Board of Directors.She is a native of Ireland and moved to Alpharetta from Canada in 1992.She and her husband, Derek, have two Canadian born children.Megan, 20, a 2005 Graduate of North Springs High School, is a sophomore playing soccer for Queens University, Charlotte, North Carolina.Gareth, 17, is a junior at Chattahoochee High School where he is a member of the golf and rugby teams.
Dobbs received a Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management and Sociology from Concordia University and a Master's Degree in Education from McGill University.In 1996, she served as Coordinator for Youth Development and Training with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games and Administrative Coordinator over Olympic venues at Morris Brown and Clark Atlanta.
She has 15 years of PTA involvement including serving as past president of Barnwell Elementary PTA; Local School Advisory; past president of North Fulton Council PTA; and 10th District Director.As President Elect, Dobbs represented Georgia PTA on the Georgia Afterschool Investment Council, Department of Education Truancy and Attendance Committee and House of Representatives Obesity Study Committee.She is a certified National PTA Building Successful Partnerships Trainer, Levels I, II, & III and a graduate of the Diversity Leadership Academy .
Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, State School Superintendent Cox's Education Partners Committee, Governor Perdue's Education Task Force Subcommittee, the Education Committee of the Anti-Defamation League, and the National PTA Board of Directors, Bylaws and Policies Chair.She also served on the National PTA Katrina Task Force.Her vision for PTA is to continue to support and speak on behalf of children and youth through continued advocacy at all levels, in all halls of government, for all children.
