Kent kart racer, James Dixon, has begun to wind down his 2007 season with a fantastic second place in the KF2 class of the Italian Industrial Trophy at Parma. The 17-year-old Candy Carriers backed driver eventually took the runner-up position after a string of consistent points finishes over the two round mini-series.

At the first meeting, James showed his intentions for victory by posting the second fastest time in qualifying, which put him fourth overall as the heats began. In the first race, he struggled with rear end grip and dropped back to sixth place at the flag.

In the second race, he was able to get a good start and move into fifth place, which he held to the end. This gave him a fifth place starting position for the final and despite his best efforts, his ill-handling kart meant that he was unable to move up the order and had to settle for that position at the end of the weekend.

However, his results meant that he had picked up enough points to stand in third place overall as he headed into the second event just a week later.

"I was happy with sitting in third place as I headed into the second weekend" said James."The kart wasn't quite right and it meant I couldn't fight as hard as I'd have liked to.But, the results stayed petty consistent and I was the highest placed Maranello Kart driver, which was another plus for me," he added.

At the second event, which took place last weekend, James decided to opt for a new Maranello chassis to try and cure the grip problems. However, in qualifying he was only able to set sixth best time, putting him 14th overall for the first heat.

A superb start allowed him to move into fourth place by the end of the opening lap and some inspired driving allowed him to keep his place right to the end.In the second heat, James again got a good start and was able to make more progress towards the front of the field, finishing in a fantastic second place.

His result gave him a seventh place spot on the grid for the final and after an epic battle, where he initially looked like he would take the final podium position, he had to settle for fourth place, after being overtaken on the final lap.

Despite missing out on podium spoils for the race, James was really pleased to have amassed enough points to take second place in the series/

"It should have been third place, really," admitted James."I had been driving hard to defend third for most of the race and just got passed on the last lap. It's great to have taken second place in the series though.I'm really pleased with that overall result, especially with the problems we've had with the kart over the course of the two events.I was the top Maranello Kart driver and the entry was incredibly strong, most of the guys from the European championships were there, so it was a good event," he added.

James now heads into what looks like being his final KF2 event, the Bridgestone Cup at Garda next weekend, before he begins his ambitions to move into the top KF1 class for 2008.

"I want to go out of KF2 in the best way possible, so I'm going to Garda looking to win the Bridgestone Cup," he admitted."I know it will be a tough weekend, but I want to go out with the best result possible," he added.

Sittingbourne based karting star, James Dixon, heads to the Italian circuit of La Conca next weekend as he aims to step onto the podium in the latest round of the KF2 class of the Winning Series of Karting (WSK).

The 17-year-old has already taken a place in the top three of the European series, with a third place in the last round in the Spain almost a month ago. However, the JRP Racing team driver is determined to return to the top three after a frustrating series of results have hampered his championship progress.

"I really want to go out and step onto the podium at the end of the weekend," he says."I'm currently 12th in the points and I want to get good results in both of the point scoring finals on Sunday and move myself up the table."

"My main aim for the rest of the season is to get onto the podium as many times as I can.If I can stay consistent, then I should be in with a chance of getting a good result in the final standings," he adds.

The WSK series has already taken James to Italy and Spain so far this year.A trip to France for the fourth round in June, as well as two more races in Italy, means he will be well traveled by the middle of the 2007 season.

However, his hectic race schedule also includes the Italian Open Masters series, which runs back to back weekends with the WSK Championship, meaning that a full week away is on the cards for James, before he will get the chance to return home.

"The racing in Europe is a lot more physical than it is in the UK and the meetings run so much more smoothly too," he says."I don't mind being out there at all, as being acclimatized to the heat is a big factor. The races are a lot longer so you need to be a lot fitter and used to the heat and being out there for longer will help me with that," he adds.

James' weekend will get underway on Friday, with free practice, before his all important qualifying sessions and heats take place on Saturday. The two point scoring finals will be run on Sunday afternoon.

Kent karting ace, James Dixon, is aiming for one of the biggest prizes in international karting next weekend, as he heads to the European Championships at Salbris in France.

The 17-year-old Candy Carriers backed driver is confident of a top result after already stepping onto the podium at the venue earlier in the season. The JRP racing team run Maranello Kart that James races is a proven package and he is keen to break into the winners circle during the weekend.

"I'm going to Salbris looking for the best result possible next weekend," said James."I've been training even harder than normal in the run up to it as I want to be as fit as I can be.I've already taken a podium there and the chassis and engine package we have works well. The European Championship is one of the biggest events on the karting calendar, so it would be fantastic to get a good result.

The event will also be one of the final ones of the year for James, as his season almost draws to a close. However, if he has a good meeting in France, then he will automatically qualify for the World Championships at Mariembourg in Belgium at the end of September, where the spoils would be even bigger.

"A trip to the World Championships would round my season off nicely," he said."It obviously doesn't get any bigger than that and if I could bring back some silverware from both of those events it would be brilliant.I know that it is going to be extremely tough, though."

With both events being ‘one-off' meetings, the pace and pressure is going to be huge, but Dixon is more than happy to soak this up and is eager to get out on track in France, before starting a major testing schedule at the Belgian track.

"I know that it is going to be a hard weekend at Salbris and the World Championships will be on another level completely, but I know that I can race at the front with the best Europe has to offer, as I've been doing it all season.I haven't raced at Mariembourg either, so we'll have to get some serious testing in before the end of September too," he added.

James will take to the track on Friday for free practice, before the timed qualifying and the heats start on Saturday.

Kent kart racer, James Dixon, took a superb fourth place, narrowly missing out on a podium finish at the French circuit of Essay in the European Championship qualification meeting at the weekend. However, the result means that the Candy Carriers backed ace gained an automatic entry into the finals in just under a month's time.

The JRP Racing Team driver showed his rivals his pace right from the word go when the action got underway on Saturday.James set the second fastest time in qualifying then followed that up with a superb victory in the opening KF2 heat.

In his second heat, he once again took a podium place, finishing in third place. He was again heading for the last step on the podium in the final heat, but was taken out late in the race and had to settle for 25th place, putting him 15th on the grid for the first of the two finals.

In the first race on Sunday, James was unlucky to get caught up in the opening lap chaos, which dropped him all the way back to 28th place. An incredible drive back through the field meant that he was able to cross the line back in his original grid position of 15th.

In the second final, a great start allowed him to jump from 15th to sixth on the opening lap.A move into fifth quickly followed. But, he was forced to spend a number of laps finding a way past his next rival for fourth place, which allowed the top three to move out of reach by the time he had gained the place.

However, James was pleased with his performance over the weekend and happy that he had qualified for the European finals at the start of August.

"I'm really happy with my pace over the weekend," he said.
    ...
James has no time to relax and enjoy his successful weekend, with this final round of the Italian Open Masters Championship taking place next weekend, before the Kartmasters Grand Prix and then the European Finals, all within a handful of weeks.

"I'm going out to Italy with the aim to take two podium finishes next weekend," he said."I can't take any of the top places in the championship now, but I want to keep the momentum going from here for the remainder of the season," he added.

Kent karting ace, James Dixon, took a solid pair of sixth place finishes in the latest round of the Italian Open Masters Championship at the Garda circuit at the weekend, pushing him to just outside the top ten in the points.

The Candy Carriers backed racer had gone to the penultimate round of the series with the intention of making it onto the podium, after a third place in last weeks WSK event. His early weekend form proved that he had every chance of unsettling the championship leaders when he took fourth fastest time in his qualifying group, putting him 10th overall, out of a staggering 66 competitors!

In his opening heat he was able to get up to fifth place before reaching the chequered flag. However, he was suffering from a large amount of understeer in the second race and could only manage a tenth place finish.

The JRP Racing team immediately made some changes to the Maranello Kart chassis and in the final heat James was able to cross the line an impressive second, giving him a superb boost for the two point-scoring finals on Sunday.

In the first final, he found that he had a recurrence of the understeer problem.Although he was missing out about two-tenths of a second per lap on his rivals ahead of him, he was able to take sixth place.

In the grand final he was made to work even harder when he was pushed wide as the field dived into the first corner, dropping him to tenth place.A storming drive by Dixon meant he was able to get back up to fifth place.

Unfortunately, he lost a position in the closing laps and had to settle for another sixth place, bringing his points tally for the weekend to 20.This moved him up to 12th in the championship and in with a chance of ending the season inside the top ten if he has another good run at the final round in the middle of July.

"I'm actually pleased with the weekend," said James.
    ...
James now has a three week break before heading back into action in the final round of the WSK series, where he can still finish the season fourth in the championship.

"I'm going to go out and score as many points as I can in the last WSK meeting," said James."I can't take third, but it would be nice to get as high as I possibly can at the end of the championship and another couple of trips to the podium should be the way to do that," he added.

Kent karting star, James Dixon, achieved his ambitions for the weekend by taking a podium finish and a haul of points to move himself into fifth place in the KF2 category of the Winning Series of Karting.

In a fired up mood, Dixon made a swift move for fourth place from his fifth place starting position in the second final. After holding fourth for a handful of laps he made a move for third place and managed to hang onto the place all the way to the chequered flag.

After repeating his best result in the class this season, James was surprised to learn that he had moved into fifth in the championship, with a possible fourth place available to him at the final round at the beginning of July.

"I'm really pleased with my performance this weekend," smiled James.

James has little time to savour his new silverware as he heads to the penultimate round of the Italian Open Masters championship at Garda next weekend. After visiting the podium in France and with no title at stake in Italy, he's going to aim for more trophies and glory.

"I'm not in with a chance of taking the title in the Italian Open series," he said."So, I'm going to go out there to get onto the podium again and make sure that I show the rest of the KF2 class that I am capable of getting the results," he added.

Kent karting ace, James Dixon, finished his Winning Series of Karting season at the weekend, clinching seventh place in the European championship after a tough and frustrating weekend.

The Candy Carriers backed racer, struggled for front end grip on his JRP Racing run Maranello Kart throughout the weekend, meaning that he was unable to mount a proper charge for the podium during the meeting.

In the heats he was pushing as hard as he could and had to be content with finishes just inside the top ten to gain the best grid position possible in the two finals on Sunday. In the first one, he dropped back from his tenth place starting position and was forced to work hard to get 15th place at the chequered flag.

In the second final he dropped one place from his starting position to end the weekend in 16th place.A frustrated Dixon was left disappointed at being unable to challenge for a podium result over the weekend, but was happy with his final championship position, considering his early season results.

"To be honest, we've done quite a good job over the course of the WSK season, especially when you consider that I didn't score any points at all in the opening round," he said."I'm still disappointed that I was unable to get in a position to go for the podium this weekend though, as that was my aim."

James now turns his attention to the all important European Championship Qualifiers, at the French circuit of Essay, next weekend.A top result there will guarantee him a place at the finals in early August.

"I'm looking forward to the European qualifiers," he added."My initial aim is to make sure that I qualify for the finals, but a podium finish over the course of the weekend would be great," said James.

Just one week later he will be back in action in Italy again, this time for the final round of the Italian Open Masters Championship, where he will be aiming for a top ten finish in the points table.
