Deborah Diaz serves as the Chief Information Officer for The Department of Homeland Security, Science & Technology directorate (DHS S&T).In this role, she is responsible for more than just ensuring that each employee has a computer and other IT equipment; she also handles building the information technology portfolio and systems for Science & Technology's $1 billion research and development budget.As the CIO, she also serves as an advisor to some of S&T's key players, such as those who work on biometric, interoperability, smart card, geospatial, and wireless technologies.
The Science & Technology directorate, as is the case DHS-wide, works tirelessly at its mission to develop new and effective ways to fight the war on terrorism.Ms. Diaz contributes daily to the mission of The Department of Homeland Security by bringing a wealth of knowledge to her daily duties.She has gained almost 15 years of experience as an international consultant and federal official for the World Bank, State Department, World Trade Organization, NATO, and the U.S. Agency for International Development.She has managed several initiatives for international business development and environmental technology joint ventures, and has also introduced new technology and information systems worldwide.
Mrs. Diaz served as Executive Leader of FirstGov, the first Presidential Management Council's e-government interagency plan.She developed the model which offered state and federal agencies the use of a public search engine -- and saved GSA $25 million in its first year of operation.

She is a graduate of Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts, where she received her Bachelor's degree in business administration.She received her Master's in International Business from Colorado State University.
When not serving at DHS, Deborah is an extensive world traveler.She also keeps busy with her three daughters and husband of 20 years.
