Sam Dia, district manager for Burger King in Amarillo, said the chain is responding to the demands for fresh and healthy, citing the recent additions of the Chicken Whopper and the Veggie Burger to its menu.
Still, the 99-cent value menu, which includes new desserts, cookies and chili along with the burgers, is not about to go away, he said.
"Our biggest thing is flame broiling," Dia said. "That is our biggest asset."
The company is looking at the low-cost offerings as a long-term strategy with hopes of proving out the strategy in about two years, he said.
Burger King came under new corporate ownership last July, which Dia said is another promising sign for the company.
Among corporate improvements are additional new food products on the way and changes in the kitchen to improve quality.
