But John Dewhurst, Cormac's director of development, said Wednesday that no deal had been signed yet to bring Sportsman's Warehouse to Olathe."I'd like to tell you, 'Yeah, we're right at the finish line,' but either it is or it isn't," Dewhurst said."We've been talking to them for a long time, and I think they're very interested. But it's not done."Dewhurst said representative from the company has toured the center and other developments around Kansas City."Once they saw 119th and Black Bob, they really liked it a lot," he said.Although Olathe Pointe and the shopping center that will include Bass Pro at 119th Street and Renner Road have been linked in several discussions during the last two years, the groups responsible for securing tenants for the centers are independent.Interstate 35, the popular Olathe Station shopping center and plenty of vehicle traffic are between the projects. But developers have tried to pitch the centers together for special state financing incentives and are in the process of securing separate agreements to charge extra sales tax to pay for major traffic improvements.Dewhurst said Sportsman's Warehouse representatives are considering a 60,000-square-foot space.Stores at Olathe Pointe are expected to open in June or July of next year. The 110,000-square-foot Bass Pro store, which will anchor a near-$270 million retail complex west of I-35, is scheduled to open in late 2006.Dewhurst said he has been told that the outdoor stores will compete for different customers."For an experience, or to bring your kids and look at the fish or stuff like that, you go to Bass Pro," he said.

"They compete very favorably with Bass Pro across the nation is what I've been told," Dewhurst said.
