George's technology career spans over two decades with both large corporations (AT&T, Apple Computer, Gartner Inc.) and entrepreneurial ventures (Insession Inc., Requisite Technology, Solista Global, and Falcon Venture Partners).Besides helping to fund and launch more than two dozen companies, George has been a key executive who has accelerated company growth, turned around a failing business, negotiated acquisitions, and architected international expansions.

George joined Bandi in 2005 to take the company to new levels of success.George holds BA and MA degrees from California State University, is an advisor to several new ventures in the U.S. and overseas, and is an advisor to the Boulder Innovation Center and the University of Colorado's Deming Center for Entrepreneurship.

George Deriso , managing vice president of Gartner Solista in Boulder , said many new entrants from different sectors were dealing for VC dollars.Today , Deriso said new investors and funds that launched to take advantage of the Internet stampede are in a bit of a retreat.

Those investors are looking at companies closer to their portfolio mix , he said.The reason involves risk.Investment groups without much history in down markets look for companies that match those already in their portfolio because they understand the models and therefore , can increase their chances of success.

But now that the Internet funding frenzy has died , how are technology companies securing their first round of financing.Better yet , how do they even get the opportunity to present their slide presentation to potential investors.Internet firms pigeonholed as dot-coms will have a particularly difficult time if their model even appears to fall into the business-to-consumer ( B2C ) arena.

When VCs look at a business plan , Deriso said the strongest focus is on the management team and their experience.But the criteria is not always clearly established.While many factors are considered , Deriso said it's fair to say that a VC will fund companies if they are confident that they can work with the entrepreneur.

Some investors take an even more unorthodox approach.

Deriso said one investor he knows makes bathroom checks.If the bathroom is stocked and clean , she takes it as a sign that the company is organized and cares about its employees.
