Alana Dennard

GAINESVILLE - A jury Wednesday convicted a Gainesville man of first-degree murder, robbery with a firearm and sexual battery with a firearm in the death of Alana Dennard, the University of Florida graduate student who was found dead in her home in 2002.

Dennard was 24 when she was killed in 2002.She had graduated from Florida State University and had planned to start graduate classes at UF that fall.

Firefighters found Dennard's body in her Northwest 31st Street home Aug. 13, 2002.She had been shot in the head.

They discovered her body after a neighbor noticed that Dennard's 14-month-old daughter was in the yard without supervision and called authorities.
