Robert DeLuna, of the National Insurance Crime Bureau, said fraudulent claims from staged accidents cost each insured individual in Florida $240 a year in increased premiums.

DeLuna said participants in the staged accidents are usually paid $500 to $1,000 by clinic operators.The participants sign medical forms, which the clinics use to submit fraudulent claims, DeLuna said.

"They pretty much know the ropes," DeLuna said.
