    Meanwhile , Robert Delaney , a managing director at Goldman Sachs who is chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs Kyocera Venture Capital , will join Optorun's board.

    Founded in February 2000 , the Goldman-Kyocera partnership has ¥30 billion to invest , of which ¥20 billion consists of proprietary funds from Goldman and the remainder from Kyocera.The partnership has so far made three investments , including one outside Japan.

    Son says he won't need more money before his IPO.Apart from beefing up capacity in Saitama , he's using the Goldman-Kyocera money to start a factory in Shanghai which will make relatively low-tech optical lens coating machines.The Shanghai plant will also have another job : spotting local engineering talent for export to Japan.

    Bob Delaney is currently a private investor based in Westfield, New Jersey.He retired from Goldman, Sachs & Co. in 2003.In his 17 year career at Goldman Sachs Bob held a variety of positions in both the Investment Banking and the Merchant Banking Divisions.Bob joined Goldman Sachs in the Investment Banking Division in 1986 and became a general partner in !994.From 1991 to 1997 he headed the Leveraged Finance Group in Investment Banking with responsibility for high yield financings, leveraged buyouts and workouts.From 1997 to 1999 he moved to the Mergers and Acquisitions Department where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions of large public companies.From 1999 to 2003 Mr. Delaney worked in the Principal Investment Area (PIA) of the Merchant Banking Division.PIA has responsibility for investing the Goldman Sachs GS Capital Partners family of private equity funds as well as its family of mezzanine funds.From 1999 to 2003, Bob was also a member of Goldman's Investment Committee for theses funds.In 1999 Mr. Delaney moved to Tokyo and established the Goldman Sachs private equity business in Japan.In 2000, Mr. Delaney assumed responsibility for PIA's private equity business in Korea and in 2001 was given responsibility for PIA's private equity business for all of Asia.Mr. Delaney returned to the United States in May, 2002.

    Bob graduated with an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1986.He received an MS in Accounting from NYU Graduate School of Business in 1980, and a BA in Economics from Hamilton College in 1979.
