Solid Waste Superintendent Michael DeBroisse said Friday.
...
since the city began publicizing the program weeks ago, DeBroisse believes most of the affected cutoffs have, by now, made alternative trash pickup arrangements with private contractors.
"They might not be happy about it, but they've adjusted to what they have to do," he said.
...
By Saturday, said DeBroisse, Waste Management, the city's new trash hauler, was to have finished distributing to residents some 31,800 of the 64-gallon carts. Each household is given three - burgundy for household waste; green for mixed paper, newspapers and cardboard; blue for mixed glass, plastic, aluminum and metal.
...
"The handle of the cart needs to be facing the property" so the robotized retrieval arm of Waste Management's recycling trucks can properly grasp the carts, DeBroisse said. Anyone who has a question should call the solid waste hotline at 767-8880.
In an effort to make sure the program gets off to a hitch-free start, the city has temporarily reassigned five workers from the Highway and Parks and Recreation divisions and a secretary to Solid Waste, according to DeBroisse. In addition, Waste Management has added six temporary employees.
Eventually, said DeBroisse, the new solid waste program will settle down with just two full-time employees - himself and a co-worker.
...
But DeBroisse says there are no plans of enforcing the ordinance until residents are given a fair chance to adapt, unless he encounters some particularly aggressive resistance. -
