Chuck DeBroder was born on a cold January day in Denver, Colorado right after a blizzard the night before.That, says Chuck, is how the love of weather got into his blood."I also love to talk," says Chuck."My kindergarten teacher discovered my talent for talking at an early age.She put me in a room with a Fisher-Price microphone and told me to pretend I was on the radio.An hour later she returned and I was still talking!"She knew I was destined for a career in broadcasting."
Chuck goes to work everyday combining two things he loves to do: talking about weather!He received his first degree, a B.A. in Broadcasting / Public Relations from the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo, and then went on to pursue and obtain a B.S. degree in Meteorology from Metropolitan State College in Denver.A broadcasting job took awhile though.Chuck waited tables at Chili's, worked as a weather consultant and chased tornadoes until he got his first break in TV at KCBD Newschannel 11, NBC, Lubbock, Texas in November of 1993.Chuck worked weekends there until May of 1995 when he began work here at Newschannel 9.
Chuck did both weekend and morning weather for over a year and a half before becoming the full time morning meteorologist.Chuck became Chief Meteorologist at NewsChannel 9 in February of 1999.Chuck is a full member of the American Meteorological Society and carries the AMS Television Seal of Approval.He is also a full member of the National Weather Association and has the NWA Television Seal of Approval.When he's not broadcasting a Week's Worth of Weather, Chuck is involved in El Paso.He speaks regularly to schools, civic groups and anyone who will listen several times a month.His hobbies are working out, skiing and traveling around the beautiful Southwest.
Chuck recognizes that our community is part of his audience and mentions us often.At time of posting he was working to expand his radar maps to include Dell City.The Dell Valley - Hudspeth County Fair Association welcomes Chuck and is honored to have him serve as our 2006 Grand Marshall. -
