    Marlene Deboisbriand, a former acting president, chief operating officer and senior vice-president of United Way-Centraide Canada has been named president of Volunteer Canada, effective August 5, 2003.

    For the past eight months Deboisbriand has served as executive director of Volunteer Canada's multi-year federally funded project, the Canada Volunteerism Initiative (CVI). Deboisbriand has extensive experience with the voluntary sector and has worked to deepen the relationship between the sector and the federal government. She has participated in the Voluntary Sector Roundtable and chaired the Senior Sector Steering Group for the Voluntary Sector Initiative. In her capacity as chair, Deboisbriand signed the first-ever Accord between the Voluntary Sector and the Government of Canada.
