DeBoer is pursuing her Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and plans to graduate in May of 2000. Her student activities include HOSA State Competition where she won 1st place in 1999, HOSA National Competition where she won 3rd place in 1999,Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges in 1999 and she was the nursing class president from 1998 to 1999. Grace's community services include kindergarten helper, Headstart helper, nurse aid and going on a relief trip to Haiti. She was also the Montessori preschool teacher, swimming teacher, Bible school teacher to the mentally disabled, Children's Church director and a Sunday School teacher. She demonstrates her leadership qualities by being vice president of the Parent Policy Council Board for Headstart, president for a local parent's group for Headstart and a Worship Team member of New Hope Evangelical Free Church. According to Grace, "The best thing about this award is it credits people in communities for caring and gives hope for people with good hearts. It awards kindness rather than cold academic ability that is self-seeking."
