Dorothy A. DeBoer
Dorothy Annabelle DeBoer of Bellevue and Gustavus, Alaska died Nov. 19, 2001, at the Meydenbauer Medical & Rehabilitation Center.She was 78.
Mrs. DeBoer was born March 1, 1923, in Juneau, Alaska.
She attended Northwest Bible College in Kirkland and Seattle Pacific College.Mrs. DeBoer received a master's degree and doctorate in education, and began teaching in 1947 in Alaska.
She was appointed principal of Glacier Valley School in 1967, making her the first woman principal in the Juneau Douglas School District.She retired from the school in 1977, and was appointed by the governor of Alaska to the Western Interstate Commerce on Higher Education.
She attended Neighborhood Church Assemblies of God in Bellevue, and was active in the church.She volunteered as principal of the Juneau Christian School and taught at various churches and religious organizations, including the Asia Pacific Bible College in the Philippines and the South Pacific Bible College in Fiji.
Mrs. DeBoer also spent two years in Brussels, Belgium, where she was the editor of the International Correspondence Institute.In 1992, she compiled a book entitled ``We Remember Gustavus, Alaska 1917-1950.''
She is survived by her husband, Charles W. DeBoer; son Morgon DeBoer of Gustavus, Alaska; daughter Donna DeBoer-Williams of Gustavus; brothers Charles White of Bainbridge Island and Ed White of Chehalis; sisters Henrietta House of Maltby, Anne Gregg of Juneau and Alice Ackerman of Sequim; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Neighborhood Church, 625 140th Ave. N.E., Bellevue.A second service will be Wednesday in Alaska, where she will be buried.
