   Julian Kiki DeAyala , principal partner of Arena Ventures , LLC , addressed the Rotary Club Wednesday about the controversial entertainment and sports center that his company proposed to the City of Laredo last year. One of the key things that DeAyala stressed was that the project was not , by any stretch , solely a hockey arena. Among the things that the entertainment center would house , DeAyala listed concerts , rodeos , professional boxing , indoor soccer , NBA exhibitions , professional wrestling and truck shows , in addition to professional hockey and public skating.
   
   Space would also be made available , he said , for graduation ceremonies , conventions , corporate gatherings , trade shows , and festivals as well. On the other hand , hockey was and still is a necessary part of the arrangement. Hockey , DeAyala said , would guarantee the 40 events per year necessary to take care of the cost of running and maintaining the arena ( about $500 , 000/year ). The Western Professional Hockey League ( WPHL ) , the franchise rights of which Arena Ventures has already purchased , was designed with a family's budget in mind. Approximately 25 percent of the seating will be priced in the $6 range.
   
   Additionally , he said that he and his team have found that professional hockey thrives in small cities such as Laredo , citing examples such as Odessa , Texas , and Alexandria , La. among numerous others. DeAyala also discussed the arena's financing which was causing concern. Financing , he said , would be covered by a 1/4 cent sales tax increase , and increase that would amount ultimately to about $12.50 per year , or approximately the price of two movie tickets. Also noted was the fact that the City of Laredo would own the entertainment center , which would be constructed on 20 acres of land , donated to the city by Arena Ventures.
