PINEHURST - Jane Deaton considers it a compliment when someone comes to visit for the first time and can't believe their house is only four years old.
"We wanted to have the look of an old house," she says."And we wanted a very informal cottage style house that blended in with the others in Pinehurst."
...
From the outside, Jane and Brian Deaton's two-story white house, with its long wide front porch, columns and shutters does look like it could have been built when Pinehurst was being developed more than 100 years ago.
But step inside the Deatons' home, and you will find much more light and color than you find in the older Pinehurst homes.
Sunny yellow walls, 12-foot ceilings, large windows and an open floor plan create the informal look the Deatons wanted.Jane Deaton says their former home in Bethesda, Md., was about 60 years old and was more formal.
The couple will welcome hundreds of guests into their home Sept. 12 for the "Kitchens ... and Moore" tour sponsored by the Moore County Extension and Community Association.
The Deatons' home is one of the six private homes in the Pinehurst and Southern Pines area that will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the tour.Proceeds benefit youth development programs in the county.
In each of the homes, guests will be treated with samples of food or drinks prepared by volunteers.
