Gene Deaton has been teaching and playing jazz for over 40 years, and his approach to learning improvisation is simply the best there is.
Deaton holds a Bachelor Degree in Music from Murray State University, a Master of Music from George Peabody College, and has completed PhD in Music course requirements at the University of Michigan.

Deaton is also an accomplished arranger, writing for many orchestral shows including "The Biggest Circus", "Oh, Women", "Dear Old Southland", "Little Park" and "Oh, Men".
His teaching career includes serving as Professor of Music at Morehead State University and East Texas State University, and he has won the prestigious "Outstanding Teacher Award" four times in his career.
Gene Deaton has taught hundreds of musicians how to improvise using the techniques taught in Improvisation and All That Jazz, and continues using the ideas and techniques today as a professional piano player.
