FRIENDLY - Floyd M. Deaton, 78, of Friendly died Sept. 23, 2002, in Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Friendly, son of Rector Madison Deaton and Wretha E. Bayles Deaton. He was retired from American Cyanamid with 36 years of service. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army, C Company, Second Infantry Division and was the recipient of three Purple Hearts, the Silver Star, Bronze Star and numerous other honorable medals. He was a member of VFW Post 6327 and the DAV.
He was a member of Friendly United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee, member of the Parsonage Committee and church treasurer. He also was a trustee of Friendly Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria Beulah Brown Deaton; granddaughter, Meghan Deaton; grandson, Joshua Deaton; sister, Della Mae Mace.
He is survived by two sons, Floyd "Bill" Deaton and his wife, Peggy of Friendly, Richard "Dick" Deaton and his wife, Gay of Merced, Calif.; one daughter, Debbie Ballard and her husband, Ralph of Charleston; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles and Roger Deaton of Friendly; one sister, Florence Neff of Belmont; special friend, Anna Mae Brown.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville, with the Rev. Gary Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Friendly Cemetery, Friendly, W.Va, with military graveside service by VFW Post 6327 and American Legion Post 67 of Sistersville and American Legion Post 86 of Paden City, W.Va.
