Check fast-food bill: It might not be right - [Cached Version]

Dee Ann Deaton, publicist for the agency, said it was spurred by consumer complaints.

Among the problems found were situations where the menu signs posted at the counter did not match the price actually charged at the register.

Deaton said that occurs because most all chains use automated registers where the clerk punches a button with the name of the item. That means if the register is not programmed to match the menu price, the customer will be wrongly charged.

Another problem, she said, was situations in which the prices on the drive-through menu did not match those posted inside the store.

The system works like the surveys the agency is required to do at grocery stores.

State inspectors ask for 25 items. The law says a store passes the test if no more than one of those items rings up at the incorrect price.

Scoring the worst - failing three separate inspections at two restaurants in Mesa and one in Gilbert - was Del Taco.
    ...
Deaton said anyone who notices a problem should ask the restaurant to correct it.
