   Anne Deatherage Receives Meritorious Service Award
   
   NIGP is proud to announce the newest of its prestigious awards, the Anne Deatherage Meritorious Service Award, named in honor of Anne Deatherage who retires in December 2005 after 33 years of service to the Institute and currently serves as NIGP's Deputy Chief Executive Officer. The award was presented to Anne during NIGP's 2005 Annual Forum and Products Exposition in Anaheim, California.
   
   Anne Deatherage joined NIGP in 1972 and by March 1976, she was responsible for staff support of the annual conference and products expo functions. In 1987, Anne received NIGP's Distinguished Service Award. In 1992, upon the retirement of NIGP's Executive Vice President, Anne was appointed Acting EVP until a new EVP could be named. Anne attained her Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) designation in 1995 and then again, in 1997, was appointed to assist the Institute as Interim EVP.
   
   During Anne's many years of service to NIGP, she not only managed the Annual Forum and Products Expo, but also served as staff liaison to the Honors and Awards, Finance and Budget Review, Editorial Advisory, Nominations, Marketing, Building, and Exhibitors Advisory Committees and served on the LES Foundation Board.
   
   Anne's positive influence and optimism has played a major role in the success of NIGP. Her ‘can do' attitude and her leadership have impacted numerous NIGP members during her tenure with the Institute.

   In 2005, NIGP established the Anne Deatherage Meritorious Service Award - named in honor of NIGP's Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Anne Deatherage, who served the Institute in a variety of leadership capacitites from 1972 to 2005.
   
   This special award is given to current public purchasing officials, retired or former public purchasing officials, NIGP staff members, and individuals in the private sector who have dedicated their career to advancing the public purchasing profession.
   
   Among Anne's greatest achievements was the annual Forum and Products Exposition. As an educational showcase, Anne insured the Institute's success by producing an event where professionals learned, networked, and developed life-long personal friendships. Anne's legacy has continued through new leaders on the NIGP team that emulate her enthusiasm and commitment to the public procurement profession through quality conferences.

   In 2001, Anne saw a special quality in Carrie, who was yearning to leave the hotel catering business and wanted an opportunity to develop her meeting planning skilss.
