Richard Dear, owner of Tropical Breeze Resort and Spa on Siesta Key, already is gearing up to get more clicks in Canada on the Canadian version of Google.
"We are getting a lot more calls from Canadians, and we are going to focus some of our advertising in Canada for the first time in 10 years," Dear said.
The Dutch are likewise showing up in force.
"Not only are they staying here, but they also seem to be buying higher-end real estate," Dear said, adding that besides their conquering euro, the Dutch have the advantage of Amsterdam's airport -- hub for some of the cheapest flights to the United States.
Dear's winter book of business for his 65-room resort is 20 percent heftier than this time in 2006, with many stateside vacationers also looking for an affordable place to land.
"For the family of four to pick up and go to London right now is exorbitant. They are going to spend three or four times more on their week's vacation than if they come to Florida," Dear said. -

Richard Dear, president and co-owner of Tropical Breeze Resort, on Siesta Key, said the 65-unit resort's gross revenue ended 2003 18 percent ahead of the year before.
"And it looks like we'll be up 15 percent this year," Dear said. His resort's rates through April 30 range from $848 per week to $2,686 per week.
"The people I talk to in the industry, I don't know anyone who was down in 2003, and everybody I know has the same feeling for growth and prosperity in 2004," added Dear, who opened Tropical Breeze in 1999. -

The 60-year-old Beach Club was one of two properties Brown picked up on Aug. 4 from former owner Richard Dear. He also bought a 6,000-square-foot commercial plaza across the street that houses the China Dragon restaurant, the Tropical Breeze resort offices and a day spa, for roughly $3 million.
...
The Beach Club and the plaza were two of five Tropical Breeze properties that Dear put on the market for $37 million in February in an effort to spend more time on his boat.
David Jennings, the SKY Sotheby's broker who represented Dear in the transaction, said with the sales, only two of the five Tropical Breeze elements remain on the market -- a 10-unit complex and an 11-unit complex.
